In the long-long term, simply from demographics, India has potential to be in the top two in the world.

For now, I think there's nothing stopping India from pursuing either a 'non-aligned' or a 'balancing' strategy. Very much like Turkey, in fact - trying and often succeeding to get some preferential treatment from both sides, compared to other third-party nations. It's a reasonable outcome I think.

Marat:

This is exactly what we are talking about - Modi’s visit to Moscow precisely means that India is ready to talk with China. Moreover, apparently a conversation has begun about an acceptable solution. To find such a solution (primarily along the border, but not only - both countries share spheres of influence in the Pacific Ocean) both countries must make concessions. And apparently these countries will compensate for these concessions by dividing the spoils in Europe))) And Russia’s prize here is the stabilization of the Western border through the combined efforts of China and India and a reliable rear in Asia plus economic cooperation.
