I, like millions of Americans, really miss watching RT with my cable package. For at least 6 years I regularly watched, not just the excellent news coverage which systematically exposed every lie US imperialism told its population about Syria, Russia, Palestine, Iran, Ukraine, etc, but I frequently enjoyed the cultural and documentary programs which depicted the world outside of the US much more accurately and sympathetically. This year, CGTN, which also has very intelligent programming was also cut. In the west, "they can't handle the truth" anymore. This extends to numerous domestic commentators like those you've mentioned. I can't imagine the information control efforts were much worse under late Stalinism... before the collapse of the USSR. This tendency seems to have a universal application: before an empire collapses it throws itself desperately against any effort to speak truth.
RT News is vastly superior to anything in the "west" . . . but unfortunately, that is an extremely low bar . . . a bar so low, not even an Ant could successfully Limbo under it.
Before reading Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, I too thought the western world was the centre of ideology. Everything studied in schools in the western world literature wise is strictly western literature. The only exception was Joseph Konrad, a Pole who wrote in English and lived in England. Only in university do students get to read The Heart of Darkness, where the big baddie of imperialism is Belgium and not of course dear old England.
Sorry. I find RT very biased towards Israel and repeatedly notice comments deleted. I do often comment often as to why they regurgitate CIA mouthpiece propraganda when we don't even read them in the US i.e. NYT, Politico, WSJ, Washington Post, etc.
Marat, I wish RT were what you say it is. Of course, it's a good thing it exists, and it's telling that even in its current form it's considered to be a 'threat' by the Western hawks. Mostly, I think, because of the idea behind the project as those who ban it don't read it. However, RT has a lot of room for improvement. It largely consists of quick re-telling of the contents of the major Western publications updated in real time (no editorials) & translations of various proclamations of the Western politicians (again, usually without a comment expressing Russian government's point of views). And when it comes to the events in the rest of the world, the 'coverage' is often based, once again, on the re-packaging of the Western papers' take on these events, including repeating western evaluation. I personally unsubscribed from Sputnik Radio feed in frustration. The last straw was its telegram post about the Bolivian leadership' internal battle which was described as the one between two 'lefty' candidates, and was clearly supporting Arce. Whereas Russian government supports indigenous Morales whom Arce is fighting with the help of the US.
G'day Novato, I repeatedly hear the Democrats described as left wing even socialist and crazy but also common so the RT misdemeanour is not unusual in itself.
Nothing is perfect, Russians will make do.

Listen to the yell of Leopold's ghost
Burning in Hell for his hand maimed host
Hear how the demons chuckle and yell
Cutting his hands off, down in Hell

RT is good, but it's not completely free speech on anything.
