Because it makes very good PR for the cause. I can use such information to explain to people who don't know what what we are looking at it is (ex) Ukrainians trying to drive (american dupe) Ukrainians out of the land they have invaded and occupied since '14.
That this is NOT 'Russia full scale invading Ukraine' at all. But more 'small Ukraine' fighting for freedom from oppression and invasion by 'big Ukraine'.
That's mainly for western foreigners who know nothing.
But it also works for rabid Kiev Ukrainian followers. It is very surprising but it is true that many of them do not even realise that they 'the baddies', that it is their forces that are doing the aggressing, the invading, the denying of 'right to self determination'.
